Flavor Chaser’s Top five LA food trucks

ELLIOT GOLAN / The Bull

1. Frysmith

Though extremely simple conceptually, the creativity that Frysmith exhibits within such a small scope of cuisine is astounding. A helpful and friendly crew makes you feel light while receiving a dish that is anything but.

Top Dish: Chicken Sweet Potato fries.

2. The Grilled Cheese Truck

Taking a staple of childhood lore and evolving it into food truck legend, The Grilled Cheese Truck is a true treat. They sport a very original angle in that a  “chaser” can customize a sandwich to their liking and return repeatedly to indulge in different forms of gooey glory.

Top Dish: Cheesy Mac and Rib.

3. Flying Pig

This truck is responsible for the single most appetizing item offered at any truck in Los Angeles. Besides a playful menu of Pacific Rim and Asian-inspired street cuisine, two of the chefs were classically trained at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu.

Top Dish: Tamarind Duck taco.

4. Komodo

Also possessive of an all-star “player,” the lead chef at Komodo was trained at Le Cordon Bleu and has been an accomplished and decorated chef in Los Angeles for years — most recently as the Grill Chef at the plush Hotel Bel Air. This kitchen offers the most refined and gourmet food in the lot.

Top Dish: Seoul Food Special or Asian Marinated Chicken tacos. Picking one just doesn’t work out.

5. Phamish

By far the friendliest and most accommodating truck, Phamish is family owned and operated, resulting in food that carries a strong home cooked feel. Though one of several Vietnamese fusion kitchens, Phamish rises above with fresh and flavorful fare.

Top Dish: Vietnamese Deli Special banh mi (Vietnamese Baguette).
