In today’s every changing world, feminism can be a challenge. Marielle “Mariey” Stober, a journalism/fashion editor student and staff reporter for The Bull Magazine, delves into what feminism is in our modern world.
Stober, a 22 year old graduate of Taft High School in Woodland Hills, explores the “other” side of feminism.
She is a tall, thin, fashionably-dressed unassuming but eloquent lady wearing ankle booties, skinny jeans, a chunky sweater, red scarf, long pendent necklace, a large statement ring and glasses. Stober’s goal is to attend an accredited university such as NYU, FIT or Radford University to complete a degree in fashion editing. Her ultimate goal is to become the next editor of “Vogue.”
The boundaries that feminism puts on both male and females are sometimes limiting in the modern world.
It is interesting how in America we consider ourselves very progressive and open minded, but we still find it somewhat strange if a male likes what we consider a more feminine activity like gardening or is what society has called “metrosexual” if a male is into grooming and fashion.
“The moment a man starts siding with a women’s view he is described as whipped,” Stober said.
An example that Stober brings up is the androgynous world in the fashion business and how this blurs the lines of feminism even more. The challenge Stober admits that she will face by writing this article is to get people to admit that these stereotypes still exist.
“It can’t just be one side it has to be both sides for equality,” Stober said.
I look forward to Stober’s feature article on feminism, the taboos related to it and how it relates to the fashion industry.
