Working in the Pierce College bookstore warehouse since 2007, David Ayala unpacks the shipment of boxes he receives and separates the materials into different sections for the sales people to pick up and put on display.
“I used to be a equipment manager and locker room attendant for West L.A. College,” Ayala says.
Ayala is a father of two boys ages 19 and 15 and their well-being was a factor in his decision to come to work at Pierce.
“I liked being a locker room attendant better,” Ayala says. “I came here to do this job because it paid a lot more, and I had two kids to take care of at the time so I had to just make the change.”
Ayala is well liked by his co-workers. Holly Hagan has worked with him for his entire tenure at the bookstore and she appreciates his work ethic.
“I love David,” Hagan says. “He is so precise with getting the materials ready to be put on the shelves, and it makes the job a lot easier for me.”
Chara Roberts had positive comments about Ayala as well.
“David is a hard worker, and a great person to be around,” Roberts says.
Ayala is an avid fan of classic cars, and Nascar.
“I love cars. I even own a 1969 Cougar, and that is my baby,” Ayala says. “Sometimes I go to the race tracks and I just get a rush racing cars.”
Ayala also loves to freehand art.
“I have always loved to draw and paint,” Ayala says. “It is one of my favorite things to do, because I can tap into my creative side when I am relaxing.”
The thing Ayala enjoys most is cooking breakfast foods and spending time with his family. He has been married for over 20 years, and he enjoys spending time with his family.
“The thing that most people don’t realize about me is I am a family man. The most important thing to me is family, and that is one thing my father taught me,” Ayala says.
His favorite thing about his family is their small gatherings when they surprise him by stopping by his house unexpectedly.
“I love when my sisters, brothers, and in-laws come to visit me. I’ll cook them anything when they stop by on a Sunday morning, and we’ll just spend the day together,” Ayala says.
Still working at the bookstore, Ayala, has come to have his co-workers admire and enjoy him around. Though he might have enjoyed his last position as a locker room attendant better, he has got close with the people around him, and considers them family.
