REVIEW: Oliv’e Food Market

Have you ever wandered through the wood of chain restaurants looking for a delicious home-cooked meal that brings back childhood memories? Oliv’e Food Market is like spending a day at your grandma’s house.

The store/diner offers Eastern European, Russian food, treats, desserts and pastries.

Huge commitment, professionalism and heart put into the work is what distinguishes its service. The staff is very friendly, place is clean, organized and has a good feeling.

Oliv’e is a smart choice for students because it costs next to nothing- serving huge meals for less than $10.

Their signature dish would be Oliv’e salad, mostly known in the rest of the world as “the Russian salad.” Remaining true to the tradition all the ingredients run and swirl together, amplifying each other’s flavor.

At a hot $8, the massive meal (which comes with an entree, sides, and a choice of meat/fish) is a pretty good deal.

The menu perfectly distinguishes the homey environment. It has a lot of options but it is not too overwhelming. There is a wide variety of meat such as chicken kebab, chicken stroganoff, pork steaks, duck legs in sauce and lamb chops. For non-meat eaters they offer shrimp scampi, salmon in white sauce, smoked eel salad, and grilled sturgeon. There’s a good number of salads that radiate with the vibrance of summer.

The baked brussel sprouts have a perfect exterior crunch and interior succulence, and the same cooking skill is used in stuffed peppers and cabbage rolls, whose wrappers are perfectly soft, and exactly oily enough against a filling of ground beef and rice.

The place serves sensational desserts and fresh baked bread as well. The Russian cream roll is outstanding: light and fluffy but dense enough to stay together and absorb all the vanilla flavor. Perfectly sweet but not too much.

Oliv’e opened its doors in September 2018. It is one of those places where time flows slower, nicer and you don’t want to leave. People, especially in Los Angeles, live in the reality where they don’t have time and are always on the go but here, you can just enjoy the moment.

The Market is wheelchair accessible, accepts credit cards, has bike parking and a big parking space for your car.

Oliv’e is easy to find and open seven days a week from 9am to 9pm serving food all day. It is located on 19200 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana, CA.
