Coburn Palmer/ Special to The Bull
Dublin’s Irish Bar and Grill located next to CSUN is a great student hang out. Its location is key for students being conveniently located next to campus for a short walk, a liquor store where you can buy cigarettes and a laundromat so you can get a drink while doing laundry.
The staff is friendly and good-looking and if you engage them in conversation they are likely to offer you a free creatively made shot. The female bartenders and cocktail waitresses are very friendly, wear short shorts and show a good amount of cleavage. They are however annoying uninformed about their menu and prices and even have a hard time even adding up your bill.
The cheap prices make up for anything the staff lack though. The house beer Dublin Ale is an excellent brew best described as crisp medium ale. It sells for $2 a pint and $12 a pitcher. Their specials also include $2 well shots and $5 jack and cokes.
Instead of your average popcorn the free eatables at the bar include a snack mix of peanuts, pretzels and bagel chips.
Although the drinks are cheap the food is not. Jalapeno poppers are $8 and you get seven pieces. They’re not frozen which is an improvement from most bars but they’re also pretty bland although they do come with free ranch. Their menu includes the Dublin burger, fish and chips, and corn beef hash as well as stringy fries.
Dublin’s Irish Bar and Grill has a large open dance floor and plenty of seating in comfortable leather seats all around the bar. They have a dartboard and two beer pong tables. The bar sports no less than five big screen TV’s.
The music and lighting is just right. Most bars are to dark to see who you’re flirting with and to loud to have a real conversation. Dublin’s Irish Bar and Grill gets it just right. Subdued lighting but not too dark, and music you can hear without being too loud.
The crowd at this bar is open and friendly. They haven’t been open long enough to develop regulars but the crowd they draw is talkative and outgoing.
Dublin’s recently had their soft opening on October 15 and won’t have their grand opening for a few more weeks until their kitchen is fully supplied and stocked.
Their bathrooms are porcelain and tile, clean, large and fully stocked.
This Irish bar has a twist. It’s owned by a Lebanese man named Bryan who has opened four other restaurants including Calusa’s Italian Kitchen. He opened Dublin’s because he was looking for more exposure and a different type of challenge.
