This years theme for our fall issue of The Bull magazine is “sub cultures”. As a photographer for the magazine I wanted to find something different and exciting that I have not yet photographed. The world of bodybuilding came to my mind. The thought of taking pictures of these beautiful and symmetrical bodies convinced me that this was the right project for me.
After a couple hours of walking around campus, and a visit to the Pierce College gym I did not find anyone with a bodybuilder body type. I felt the most discouraged after speaking to a coach that looked at me like I was crazy after I asked him if he knew of any students that were into bodybuilding.
At this point I walk out of the gym, ready to come up with new ideas and giving up on my illusions. I look across the school and I see a very muscular back. Not knowing what to expect we ran after him. This strong man turns around and he is not only strong but very handsome. We asked him right away if he was a bodybuilder. He tells us that he is a bodybuilder and Mr. California. I feel like we found a treasure at school. I am very excited to set up an interview and to photograph this man!
