I was getting very worried. The deadlines for the pictures where coming up and my face, Rufio had already cancelled 3 appointments we made for the photo-shoot.
Our magazine’s editor in chief, Genna Gold reminded me that part of the job is to be persistent. Call him, text him, email him.
“Annoy the shit out of this guy” she said with a smile on her face.
It worked! After calling him numerous times, the busy marine picked up the phone. We decided to meet up at the top of Pierce College during sunset. Rufio showed me a spot on campus where you can see the view of the San Fernando Valley.
“Let’s just hope we don’t get kicked out” Rufio told me.
I pointed at my press pass and told him it would be ok. We both laughed and the photo-shoot began.
I wasn’t sure where to start. Everything was exciting, his gorgeous motorcycle, his rocking outfit, his jewelry and even the dimple on his face. The photos captured a man that cannot be described by words. A Chicano biker with a sense of style that most men would be afraid to express. An earring hung from his left ear, a strange touch that managed to give him a more masculine touch even with his bracelet and rings. The bulky biker was not camera shy, and posed with his leather jacket and vest in front of the sunset.
Words of wisdom came from Rufio as he looked into the valley. We shared stories back and forth as the spontaneous pictures where being taken. The work was great and I was satisfied with the outcome. To wrap it all up, Rufio offered to give me a ride on his motorcycle. Without hesitation I got on. In a speedy way we rode across campus. The experience was great.
