Kimberly Meza, 19, is a sophomore at Pierce College with the intent to major in journalism upon transferring.
She has decided to take on cultural customs as her topic for The Bull Magazine’s issue on taboos.
This was initiated by her interest in the strange and/or odd things that certain individuals do which weren’t accustomed to her.
By watching different shows on television, she noticed how some people have some odd customs in their daily lives.
This led her to notice how different cultures as a whole, do very different things from one another.
What excites Meza is the prospect of discovering whole new worlds of cultural customs that she had never even known existed.
Meza believes that other people will be interested because it’s human nature to be curious about things they aren’t accustomed to.
She notes that it may not all be positive curiosity, but some negative as well.
Although in this day and age, cultural tolerance is on the up rise, so she hopes people will be positively interested in learning other people’s cultural customs.
The main concerns that Meza has is that she is just beginning her career in journalism, so she is hesitant about finding the right people to interview, and successfully conducting her interviews.
