Nestled away in one of the many Woodland Hills mini-malls is a gem for the foodie and casual diners alike.
Buri Tara, a quaint Thai restaurant located on Ventura Boulevard, provides a cozy eating environment with Asian style decor and tiny bouquets of flowers are at every table.
Buri Tara has a wide variety of Asian cuisine, from teriyaki chicken to wonton soup.
Start simple with the “Just Fried Rice” dish, which includes a house light brown sauce, cabbage, celery, grape tomato, onion and egg with a choice of chicken, beef, pork, tofu, vegetable or shrimp for only $10.
Sauce and other spicy condiments is where Buri Tara sets itself apart from chain Asian restaurants. With each bite, your taste buds won’t know what to do with the sudden rush of sweet and zesty flavors that complement the texture of each platter.
Don’t forget to order a few glasses of the beautifully garnished “Mango Iced Tea,” which is as pleasing to look at as well as to drink.
Buri Tara doesn’t skimp on salads or soups, either. Order the garden fresh “Buddha Salad,” with romaine, mixed greens, a sliced boiled egg and the house made peanut sauce.
Grab the “Tom Kha” soup, with an exotic coconut galangal broth, mushroom, and chili lime juice for the perfect meal on a chilly day.
Finish your meal with a simple, yet delicious fried banana that would make even the pickiest eater succumb to its crunchy goodness.
Even though Buri Tara sells delicious Asian cuisine priced lower than your average chain restaurant, there are still a few drawbacks to this eatery.
One major problem is there is no actual sauce at the tables. Most Asian restaurants have sauces easily accessible without having to notify a waiter.
Another drawback is its location. Buri Tara is hidden in a mini-mall on Ventura Boulevard, making it hard to stand out with surrounding restaurants in the area. The parking lot is frequently packed, so it’s a good idea to park a good distance away and walk in.
Regardless of parking and sauce availability, Buri Tara is still a better choice than a common fast food option.
