Signature brots at Dog Haus

Tucked away with a strip of stores adjacent to the Topanga Mall is Dog Haus: The Absolute Wurst. This latest installment in the San Fernando Valley is the brainchild of partners Hagop Giragossian, Quasim Riaz, and Andre Vener. Its open glass front façade and cheeky name draw in hungry customers.

The deceivingly large restaurant could be compared to walking into a sports bar that caters to families. Hits from the 90s and early millennial’s play over the speaker system stopping only when an order is called. The bench style chrome tables that line the windows are outfitted with ketchup, relish and mustard caddies; additional condiments including Sriracha sauce are located at numerous outposts by the drink stations.

Dog Haus has a diverse array of hotdogs, sausages (wurst), hamburgers and sides to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. For the daring foodies looking to spice things up try the Tae Kwon Dog. The dog is covered in a bulgogi glaze and topped with a fried egg, kimchi and Korean chili powder. Another daring choice is the Another Night in Bangkok Wurst, which is made with a spicy Thai red currywurst, peanut sauce, and Asian slaw and topped with crushed peanuts. For a more Germanic take, the Das Brat is highly recommended. Complete with sauerkraut, whole grain mustard aioli and caramelized onions the Brat goes down smooth. Pair it with either a cool glass of iced tea or a chilled bottle of beer.

Those seeking healthy alternatives may try The Pig and The Fig, which consists of a emmentaler stuffed sausage, fig and onion relish, wild arugula, whole grain mustard and sliced almonds. Vegetarian options are available upon request but vary depending on the location. For a sweet ending to the meal diners have a wide selection of desserts. From ice cream floats to shakes, malts, and homemade cookies, the only question to be asked is “will that be with or without whipped cream?”

Whether it’s a quick bite on the go or a sit-down lunch with friends, Dog Haus provides a substantial bang for your buck. The upbeat staff makes the long wait worth it. To dodge rush hour, swing by when they open at 11 a.m. or after 3 p.m. Peak hours are noon and 5 to 6 p.m.
